An Organ of Stridulation in East Asian Hexathelid Spiders (Araneae, Mygalomorphae)
نویسنده
چکیده
An organ of stridulation is described from Macrothele gigas Shimojana et Haupt, 1998 (Araneae, Hexathelidae). One part is located on the retrolateral side of the pedipalpal trochanter and its counterpart is a specialized structure on the anterolateral side of the first leg's trochanter. Stridulation facilities occur in both sexes. This descripton emphazises differences between large and smaller Macrothele species and the taxonomic situation is discussed on the basis of further characters.

New species of mouse spiders (Araneae: Mygalomorphae: Actinopodidae: Missulena) from the Pilbara region, Western Australia.
Two new species of Mouse Spiders, genus Missulena, from the Pilbara region in Western Australia are described based on morphological features of males. Missulena faulderi sp. nov. and Missulena langlandsi sp. nov. are currently known from a small area in the southern Pilbara only. Mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequence divergence failed in clearly delimiting species in Miss...
متن کاملFungal and rickettsial infections of some East Asian trapdoor spiders
While published data on fungal and rickettsial infections of spiders give the impression of a wide range of hosts infected by particular agents, field collections of trapdoor spiders from East Asia reveal a clear distinction: representatives of Mesothelae were infected by rickettsiae, while specimens of the genus Latouchia (Mygalomorphae, Ctenizidae) were found to be infected by the hyphomycete...
متن کاملThree new species of Melloleitaoina Gerschman & Schiapelli, 1960 (Araneae, Mygalomorphae, Theraphosidae) from northern Argentina
Three new species of the monotypic genus Melloleitaoina Gerschman & Schiapelli, 1960 are described from northern Argentina: M. mutquina sp. n., M. uru sp. n. and M. yupanqui sp. n. The female specimen originally described as M. crassifemur is not conspecific with the male holotype and thus is removed from this species and described as M. uru sp. n.; M. crassifemur is redescribed. All species ar...
متن کاملA devonian spinneret: early evidence of spiders and silk use.
A nearly complete spider spinneret was found in Middle Devonian rocks (about 385 to 380 million years old) near Gilboa, New York. This is the earliest evidence yet discovered for silk production from opisthosomal spigots, and therefore for spiders. Two previously known Devonian fossils described as spiders lack any apomorphies of the order Araneae and are probably not spiders. The spigots of th...
متن کاملSex Chromosomes and Meiosis in Spiders: A Review
According to Platnick (2011), the order Araneae possesses 110 families, 3,849 genera, and 42,473 species. It is divided into two suborders: Mesothelae, consisting of only one family (Liphistiidae), and Opisthothelae. The latter suborder is divided into two infra-orders: Mygalomorphae, consisting of spiders with paraxial chelicerae, and Araneomorphae, consisting of spiders with diaxial chelicera...
